Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang is one of the leading universities in Indonesia, Muhammadiyah. Since its inception in 1964 until today, UMM experiencing significant development that is able to compete with other universities. With the infrastructure and resources already owned, UMM is expected to carry out the basic tasks of higher education that Tri Dharma. UMM Library Unit was established to support the implementation of Tri Dharma. In carrying out its functions UPT UMM Library seeks to collect, process, present and disseminate information.

History of UMM library has a way that is quite unique, given its existence long enough but it just managed heartily as usual modern college library in 1986.
Geographically UMM library was originally located in two locations: Jl. No. Bandung. 1 as the university library I and Jl. Dams Sutami 188 A as a campus library II as well as the central library.
In development since August 1993, the library was moved to the campus center III (integrated campus) located in JL. Kingdom Tlogomas KM 8 Tegalgondo. While the campus library into the library I graduate, college library II into the library of the Faculty of Economics and Akper were initiated in 1996. III college library into a UMM Central Library has three floors with an area of ​​5100 m2.
In early 1998 a collection of religion (class 200) which was originally located in the central library was moved to AR Fachruddin mosque, with the aim of the study of Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan support and information as complete. Faculty of Economics since early 2003 officially moved to central campus that are automated collection contained in the Library Campus II was transferred to the Central Library and Campus II Library was named Library of the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Since its establishment until now UMM Library has undergone several changes of leadership, including:

A new paradigm in which there are libraries of information and communication technologies (Information and Communication tecnologi) began to explore the development of UMM library. UMM Library began restructuring, revitalization and reorganization so that by mid-2002 UPT. Library & Information began to improve the quality of services by implementing automated library system with laser software (library Automation Services) are created and developed by Muhammadiyah Digital Library Research Group (MDLRG) UMM.

Vision and Mission
In accordance with the vision of making UMM leading universities in the berkeunggulan higher education in science, technology and art (science and technology) as well as the faith and devotion (IMTAQ) in an effort to uphold the scientific discourse and kislaman.

Being a major facilitator of Muhammadiyah University of Malang in the preservation, access and information to support the empowerment of teaching and learning, research and community service by:
